the leader of our running holidays and is a UK Athletics coach, first
aider, and Scottish international runner, with extensive experience
of road and mountain marathons and adventure races. Adrian also won
the prestigious West Highland Way Race (95 miles) in 2007. Below is a list
of running weekends available for 2008.
We have added some
new venues and events to our list for 2008 and we now include our own guest house,
with dinner, bed and breakfast as well as our longstanding quality in
terms of group accommodation providers. We continue to cater and offer
the best wholesome locally sourced food with the emphasis on health
and fitness. Wildoutdoors running
holidays and weekends offer an enjoyable training environment in which
to explore new countryside with experienced guides and coaches. We offer
courses for beginners on our Jogscotland weekends to club and elite
athletes, from junior to veteran level. We have over 7 years experience
in delivering these courses and have a working relationship with Scottish
Athletics and jogscotland. Our team includes Adrian Davis, Scottish
International Hill runner and mountain marathon runner, Dave Lewis ex
English National Cross country champion, and Angela Mudge ex World Champion
hill runner and sports masseur to give you the best advice and coaching.
We also have a team of physiotherapists to help you through the longer
week courses.
Previous events have been very warmly received. Our customers say:
"We had a brilliant time and it met all
our expectations" A Nightingale 2006
"Great weekend- really useful" J Shortreed
2006
We
also operate an introduction to off road, fell and adventure racing
over hills, mountain and fell country. This includes;
- Introduction
to fell running and hill navigation.
- Preparation
and training for mountain marathons.
Our navigation weekends
give training and advice on orienteering and map reading for those who
would like to improve their mountain navigation skills. We utilise the
skills of Adrian Davis and Eddie Harvey both experienced orienteers
and route planners for numerous hill races and orienteering events such
as the Angus Munro race, Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon and Karrimor
International Mountain Marathon. Adrian also has extensive experience
of adventure racing and mountain marathons over 16 years at the elite
end of competition.
The weekends are
designed especially to meet your needs and ability and we tend to divide
people into small groups based on previous running experience. Our coaches
and guides introduce you to the trails and hills based around the scenic
venues, specially chosen because of the fantastic off-road running available
on the door step. We use a variety of mountains, hills and trails around
Scotland and England including the Loch Faskally and Ben Vrackie near
Pitlochry, The Lomond Hills near Falkland, Birnam Woods and Hill near
Dunkeld and the challenge of Ben Nevis and the Mamores near Fort William
as well as the Lake District. We cover distances from 3 to 20 miles
depending on group ability and requirements. Speed is not important
although we will endeavour to improve your running so you get the best
out of our weekend. A typical weekend consists of:
- A
short easy run Friday night and assessment of the groups ability
- Short
interval session if required. Afternoon physiotherapy and massage
talk, a walk and simple orientation exercise
- Long
Sunday run/walk from 30 mins to 2hours depending on ability
