Wildlife
Holidays
At Wildoutdoors, we aim to deliver friendly holidays that will help you
explore and understand ecology and wildlife. Our experts will guide you
on a journey of discovery with a wealth of wildlife experiences, from
wild coastal beaches to high mountain tops.
We
explore the natural habitats of the Scottish landscape and visit special
places, such as Ben Lawers and Tentsmuir National Nature Reserves, and
local wildlife sites featuring rare plants and birds. On our guided walks
(usually a leisurely stroll), we point out features of interest, aiming
to give you a wonderful experience up close in a sensitive way, from botanical
excursions to tracking and finding signs of wildlife in the snow. It is
often a case of waiting for wildlife to come to you.
We
have a wealth of research and knowledge of animal behavior and the relationships
between vegetation, habitats and species. Adrian Davis is your guide on
the majority of these trips and his experience and field knowledge of
British willdife is renowned. In addition he is very experienced in dealing
with planning and environmental issues as an environmental consultant
on a wide variety of development projects such as windfarms and open-cast
coal sites.
A full list of holiday options is provided in the Ecology/Wildlife section
above.
Our trips are generally very environmentally friendly, with a focus on
easy walking and minimal transport. Tailor-made holidays can be anything
from a day's tour to a two-week package, depending on availability.
Options
Six-day
holidays: The wildlife holidays normally take 6 days and guiding is
comprehensive throughout. Generally numbers are low and you are likely
to be in a small group of 4–8 people, but we still go ahead with
smaller groups of two, offering a personal guided tour.
Long
weekends: Generally off-peak, long weekends and day trips in and around
Birnam and Dunkeld exploring the beautiful and varied biodiversity of
the region, including National Trust sites such as The Hermitage, Killiecrankie
and Ben Lawers.
Bespoke
(personal trips): Tailor-made trips and itineries, arranged to let
you explore what you want to see, usually specific things like otters,
black throated divers or ospreys, or a combination – botany, birds
and badgers!
Guided Wildlife Day Walks
Why not join us on a wildlife adventure with a walk around the beautiful
Dunkeld and Birnam woodlands and along the River Tay and Bran? Our expert
wildlife guide Adrian Davis will introduce you to the fascinating variety
of wildlife and plants to be seen in the countryside around the village.
Explore the wonderful extremes of landscape and habitats in and
around Perthshire. Take part in an adventure to open your eyes, and experience
the beautiful herbs and plants of the hay meadows and peat bogs. Unless
otherwise stated, all walks start at the Birnam Guesthouse at 6.30pm and
